A Sin by Any Other Name:
Reckoning with Racism and the Heritage of the South
By Robert W. Lee
A Sin by Any Other Name was written by a 4th generation descendant of Confederate Army military General Robert E. Lee. Robert W. Lee IV is the pastor of Unifour Church in North Carolina, and he was stirred to begin the work of fighting for racial justice (and writing this book) in the midst of the events that transpired in Furgeson in 2017.
This book is Lee IV’s confrontation with his own racial biases, as well as the generational sin of his family regarding race. I greatly respected this book and the tone it sets for pastors regarding race in our country, particularly in the South.
I think that the gospel of Jesus Christ is central to what Lee IV says in the remedy for confronting racial injustice and correcting the centuries-old fight to repent of and heal from the scar tissues of institutional slavery and systematic racism so prevalent in America. Plus, it's a pretty short and quick read! I recommend it to anyone, but especially to pastors and church leaders.
